Budget Accommodation
Shaw Tarsier and Ring tailed lemur

We are aware that the hotel accommodation offered through the IPS 2008 Accommodation Booking Service may be beyond the budget of many delegates and this is why we also offer the much cheaper university halls and shared apartments .

Edinburgh is a massive draw for visitors thoughout the summer and particularly around the Edinburgh Festival. This pressure on accommodation is reflected in higher hotel rates. There are, of course, other hotels in central Edinburgh that might be cheaper than those offered through the Congress. You may wish to use the internet to shop around. A good place to start would be the Visit Scotland - Edinburgh & Lothian website, which also has information on hostels, serviced apartments, B&Bs etc. Other lower cost options include:

Hostels
Edinburgh is visited by large number of students and other low budget travellers every year for general tourism as well as specific events such as the Edinburgh Festival, New Year's celebration and international rugby matches. A number of hostels have opened in central Edinburgh to cater for these budget travellers. These have a range of facilities and accommodation types including 'dorm' rooms containing several single beds and also twin, double and family rooms. Many of the separate rooms have en-suite facilities. You can find Edinburgh hostels through either the Visit Scotland website, dedicated websites (e.g. edinburghhostels.com, smartcityhostels.com) or by performing a websearch [Go To Web Search].

Guest Houses / Bed & Breakfast
Edinburgh has a large number of B&Bs and some may be found in walking distance of the conference centre for more information click here. B&B rates are likely to be similar to those charged for university halls accommodation.

New!Roomshare?New!

You can of course save on your accommodation costs by sharing with a colleague or friend. Most hotels and B&Bs offer twin rooms and the local hostels have some multiple occupancy rooms that are very cheap (from £10-£15 per person per night; see above) IPS 2008 has set up a facility for delegates to find someone with whom to share accommodation. The forum where you can post an appeal for room-mates or answer someone else's appeal is free, but by invitation only. For access to the forum send an email to roomshare@ips2008.co.uk

NB. IPS 2008 can take no responsibility for costs incurred by delegates as a result of arrangements made through the room share forum.
